Default E60 Gremlin Day

So today as I backed out of the driveway, I got the ole Active Steering Malfunction. I tried some reset methods when I parked, but when I left, it was still malfunctioning.

...Fast forward to tonight, I go to start the car and voila! it's back to normal. However immediately I was hit with a "Right Front Parking Lamp Malfunction" warning. As it turns out, the right angel eye lamp died upon startup. The gremlins obviously switched up their game while the car was parked. Oddly enough, two days ago I ordered a set of 10W LEDs from Trinity. The timing couldn't have been more perfect.

Lastly, on the way home I was behind a newer A6. It was lighting up my radar with K and Kc band for miles. Obviously this has nothing to do with the E60, but until I narrowed it down to the A6, I thought my detector had been infected with gremlins too.

Does anyone know what some of these newer cars have on board that emits radar? Is it blind spot monitoring? I was picking this guy up with a 5x strength signal from a half mile behind him. It's incredibly annoying.

No, but I would like to know too. There have been times when I jus had to turn mine off due to something constantly setting it off. I assume it was a car because we were traveling.

Lane departure warning systems will impact radar detectors.

Most full-size GM SUVs (Tahoe, Envoy, Suburban, etc) will trip my Valentine also, but only when they light up their 3rd brake light when braking and I'm behind them.

+1 Dingolfing - Lane departure systems, active cruise control systems, automatic emergency braking/collision avoidance systems, heck even parking distance controllers use various radar and optical systems to measure distances. It's not just a cop with radar anymore.

Yup. There was a f10 in front of me causing my v1 to go crazy. As soon as he turn the corner, and I passed him it was all fine again.

also.... my other 2007 E60 sets of my radar detector whenever I am behind it. It has no active anything, no lane departure, etc. PDC won't be on while driving on the road and it is ultrasound anyway.

Heck, if she has just gotten home and the car is OFF, it still makes mine beep when I pull up.

Well I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a 9500 or smart radar, but if they are set off that easily by newer cars, I may just bank that money for the speeding ticket.

Perhaps if I give them a year to improve the systems the newer detectors will compensate for this. Thoughts?
