E60 engine and gearbox problem
Hi all,

my e60 530d has a very foul diesel burning smell when running. I though it was the injector so did a balance test in INPA which essentially tests the injectors but all came back clear

my next thought is this is due to cracked exhaust manifold, can it be that? I think my exhaust manifold is cracking as I could smell the fume from cabin on low speed.

could a crack mess up the ratio enough for the engine to start to play?

second question is , I get some vibration from under the car where propshaft is and the rev goes up and down at times on 40 mhp or slower speed.

i recently upgraded the gearbox software using ncsexpert and since ( could be co incident) i can hear that vibration which feels like as if you driving over ramps
*
also when i put my foot down, it does rev a lot higher to almost past readline, get stuck for few milli sec and then shift.*
Also lazier in shifting up in normal cruising .
*
stays in current gear while you are lightly cruising and it should be shifting up
*
any ideas what those can be related to?

any chance I have uploaded a wrong gearbox software?

Any oil leaking near the manifold or downpipe?
Not all 530d's have the crackable stainless manifold - mine is LCI and it has the cast iron one.
Can you undo the gearbox upgrade? That would be my first shot there.
