My Ride: BMW e61 530d
Question e60/e61 Service book - pics needed.

Hi,

Signed up the other day. Will be collecting my e61 530d soon.
(I've used the search box, but cant find anything answering my question below - may have missed it of course.)

So, before I pay for the car in full, I'm making sure all is in order and there's no surprises!

Right, i've asked for scanned copies and proof of service history, I've been sent the PDF scans below.....although they don't look like the standard BMW Service Booklet I'm used to seeing.
They've confirmed via email that the service history is fully compliant with BMW regs.
(I would go and check myself, but the car is 5 hrs away and i'm too busy with work to get there)

The car is from 10/2008, has 46000 km (28600 miles).
How many services/checks should the car have had by now - 04/2013?
Not sure if it's time/mileage based?

Could someone post up pics of theirs to compare. My car is a Euro zone (Spanish) example - however i doubt it make any difference to the BMW documentation.

Thanks in advance!

No one? Really?

This is a very easy thing to help out with.

I guess most people viewing this will own the e60/e61. Therefore most will have easy access to their BMW Service Book.

If you let me know what the last seven of the VIN is I can check. I just don't know if this will work for cars out of the US. The car is set for service and will notify you when you start the car. I assume the service in Spain is the same here so it would be serviced up to 50,000 miles, or at least here in the US it would be.

As stated above the car will tell you what is due. If you scan through the vehicle info the countdown clocks will tell you what is coming up and how far till they are due. Yes, most are mileage based but some things people get refreshed from a time base if the mileage is kept very low. Off the top of my head you should have an oil change coming up at 30k/mi. This is due every 15k/mi. Some things I just don't know if they are available to you such as the highly recommended PPI (PrePurchase Inspection). I looked at the pdf's you attached and I would agree they are very skimpy. I can tell you that over here in the US looks nothing like that from the dealer. They get much more detailed. I assumed the items were just checked. To me at the very least I would ask that it have the oil changed at a dealer and if its anything like over here you'll also get a full inspection, which will come with recommendations and details of what is due and when.

Cheers.

Umm, that book (from the PDFs) still has me a little wary. Anyway, i've asked for the official BMW booklet to be scanned - i'd already done that, he sent back the PDFs above - but will try again.

It will have a service before i get it, so thats good. Just want to clear up the service book problem - if it is one?

The bmwusa.com website has service and warranty pdfs under 'owner' then 'ultimate service' then 'service and warranty books' by model year.
However, there are no diesel E60s in the US so I doubt it will be of much use to you for specific questions. It does however talk about the condition based service and how to access it so that is probably the same (adjusted for diesels) on the car you are buying. You would need to be sitting in the car to check the dashboard information.
Good luck

I'll check it out.
cheers for the info.

I believe BMW have changed the Service Booklets to a different format - as per the pdfs i posted. But thought they were for new cars dated 2012 onwards...still working on it, but will be collecting the car next week still.
