E60 523i 2005 N52 Engine
The car overheated on a 20 mile run a couple of days ago, with amber then red warning signs displayed. Water was low so topped it up.
The cooling fan is now kicking-in when starting from cold, and the amber warning light has appeared on a short journey.
A diagnostic check has thrown up the following codes:
2EF5 Thermostat characteristic, activation (Intermittent)
2E82 Auxiliary water pump, switching off (Intermittent)
2DED Power management, quiescent current fault (Intermittent)
I am wondering if one of the 28 codes is a knock on effect from the other?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Classic symptoms of a dying water pump.
You need a new pump and you can be stranded at any time without a lot of warning.
I would not drive the car until you fix it.

Many threads on this here and at bimmerfest.com

If you are doing this this is what you need for the fix and a couple preventative measures...
- one gallon of full strength BMW coolant
- one gallon of distilled water
- one Pierburg water pump
- one U-hose that attaches the pump to the thermostat -- this is a preventative measure since that hose is really hard to get to (this isn't absolutely necessary, but I have always done it)
- one Mahle-Behr thermostat (this may not be necessary, but I have always done it)
- one aluminum hose flange for the hose from the thermostat up to the engine block up near the oil filter housing -- looks like this -- Rein makes this one (this will break at some point for sure)
