Default e60 Control Arm Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle.. (video)

Hey guys,

I was changing my brake fluid today and just wanted to check if anything under my car was loose. I've been getting this strange vibration around 40MPH as I'm braking, so I wanted to check it out (I don't think it's my rotors, as they only have about 5k on them).

Here's a video of the control arm wiggling when I was using just my hand. Is this normal, or is it time to replace the control arms/bushings?: BMW e60 Control Arm Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle - YouTube

I was using some force, but I don't think this is normal.. any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

It doesn't look normal to me, but I have never actually grabbed mine like that. I have heard that a sure sign for the problem is what you have described though.

Yea, those control arm bushings needs replacement. Assuming the ball joint on this end is good, you can swap-out the bushings on the control arm. Use Lemforder. Don't try to save money on this one.

I heard you need a special tool to replace only the bushings on the control arm. True, or just silly talk? Also, why do you recommend Lemforder bushings against stock bushings?

How many miles are on the car? Might be worth replacing the whole arm if mileage is getting up there. It would be a real shame to replace just the bushing only to have the ball joint go south soon after.

+1 on lemforder. I got mine from pelican parts.

If you do need a special tool, autozone and oreily loans tools. I've borrowed a couple from them before. You deposit how much the tool is worth and when you return the tool, they give you back your deposit.

You ordered the right bushing set. Mark with a pen how the old bushing is oriented in the control arm before you remove it; align the new one same way. Good luck.
