E60 A/C randomly stops cooling
My 2008 550i's AC system works fine 95% of the time. But if it is over 75 outside, sometimes the compressor will randomly shut off leaving me with uncooled air blowing through the vents. If I stop the car and shut it off for five minutes or so and restart, the AC will start blowing cold again. The failure is hard to replicate consistently so getting it fixed could be hard as I am trying to avoid the dealer. Any ideas?

Is this normal? maybe the AC wasn't made to work in THIS hot weather?

Probably just low R134a pressure. You might need to top up!

Oh hello, fellow boat members!
I've been having similar issues, allow me to elaborate.
My evaporator was occasionally icing up on super humid days (evidenced by a slow decrease in vent air volume, no matter the fan setting, ending with no flow). I found that if I turned the A/C off, and left the blower on high, it started blowing air and spitting water at me.
To those with an HVAC background, these are classic symptoms of having not enough low side pressure (low evap temp, but low heat capacity - the air coming out wasn't that cold).
I had it topped off, and now it blows ice cold air, except for 90F + days, where it kicks on, and immediately kicks off, and won't start.
I figured out that if I turn the fan to the slowest position and wait for it to stabilize, I can slowly bring the fan up to speed without the A/C shutting down, and eventually switch to auto / do whatever.
My next step is to see if I can reset the airconditioning via INPA. has anyone played with the AC in INPA?
