E60 Batter cable recall
#1
Recall for battery cable just come in the mail today for my E60. (I know there's like 1 million similar threads) but I'm just not sure if I want to let the dealers touch my car especially when there is nothing wrong currently and lots of people have been experiencing problems after the work carried out, on the other hand they threatened me with fire and brimstone in the letter...
So hard to decide!

I did have an issue recently after the work. I did post about it. My iDrive was very slow in coming up and rebooting randomly. Now, I don't drive my car that much, but it wasn't doing that prior. Turns out my Nav was unhappy with the current DVD I had inserted. It was a burned DVD with traffic cameras. I've seen pretty consistently in my 530 and my X5 that they can be sensitive to a burned Nav DVD and the age of the DVD seems to matter. I burned a new DVD and my iDrive seems fine. It did seem strangely coincidental, but sometimes it is just a coincidence.

Here a vid on German TV about the problem : http://www.vox.de/medien/sendungen/a...ender-bmw.html .
Its chocking what can happen of it goes wrong. Basically there is a possible short circuit and since there is no fuse the car can go up in flames.
As said by others they don't go near the battery. Seeing what they do it can't have a bad effect on your car.
Here 2 photo's from the vid showing the connection they fix. Very basic really but if it goes wrong well bye bye your car.
Also a photo of a 6 series that went up into flames because of this.
