Thanks! Is there another option and that does not require the opening of gearshift, I mean if is possible somehow electronically transfer it into neutral? :/I was trying this (Turn the ignition to on (push start button while foot NOT on brake). Now put foot on brake and shift to N.) on my e60 lci but is not working.

I don't think there is another method. You have to release the mechanical interlock like it shows in the video. I haven't been inside a BMW transmission, but I recently repaired a Mazda 3 automatic. There is a mechanical interlock inside the transmission that has to be released.

Is the interlock mechanical on an LCI ? It is on a pre-LCI but not sure it is on a LCI

Both have mechanical interlock. The LCI just engages the interlock differently since is has the later style shift level. My wife has a 2009 X5 which has that same LCI style shift level. I needed to release it once when her battery was dead.

Thread hijack warning (apropos of the mechanical interlock).

Anybody know what the speed threshold is for putting an E60 LCI in Park whilst moving?

Are you asking at what speed can you push the P button on the stick and have it move to Park in the transmission rather that ignoring your request? Interesting question, but not one I'd like to test

Exactly. And for the same reason. I'd heard about somebody pressing "P" at highway speed and 'computer said no'. But since I've experienced 'auto P' when moving the car with the door open, the last thing I'd try is pressing "P" at any speed.
