The 550i has M package carbon black on black while the M3 is alpine white drop top. They both to me look amazing but what car is more fun to drive? Which car will hold its appeal longer? Is it worth buying an M3 when the new one isnt to far away?

That was just i was thinking too... Then you should better wait and buy the new ///M3 .

OR if you ask me to choose between both. When you have (big) children go for 550i.
When you just have a wife go M3 or children should choose if they want to give up the leg space in the back for a great engine.
But 550i has a nice engine too so, my preference still goes to the 550i with sports package .
Also like black more than white so... i wouldn't doubt about it any longer.

I vote for 550i. I wouldn't want an M3 when the new model is just around the corner...+ the E60 looks better at design.

Get the 550 - it's a great car and will hold it's value extremely well. The E46 is a fantastic car also, but it will be an 'old model' in a year. The 550 will be around for 3-4 years at least.

Actually the E46 M3 might hold value better... I think the E39 M5s hold value better than any E39 regular production car...

I agree but the E46 is already an old model. So I don't think this will work in the same way it did for the E39's.

My Ride: 545i - ordered in January delivered April 21st! Black Sapphire Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple.

I would go e60 in all cases. With the 550i you gain rear seats, good ride and similar quickness. Also you can't take the drop top to the track.

I had an e46 M3 for 3 years. I have had my 550 for 6 months. The 550i is a luxury car with excellent handling and a ton of torque. The M3 is a racecar. You feel like you are on rails. The M3 is also quite stiff and difficult to drive smoothly. I like them both.
