Just thought i would share this with you guys....

I was driving on Turnipike North yesterday evening going to NYC with a couple of friends and noticed an E55 AMG in the left lane. He was stuck behind a car that was going roughly 70 MPH and I was going 75 MPH in the middle lane. As we pass by eachother, we both give eachother those devious looks. When I got about quarter of a mile ahead, he punched it and cut me off to go to the other lane. Then it was onnnnn....we both went at it on TPK North, weaving through slight traffic (yes it was dangerous and I don't plan on doing it again ) I hit about 140 MPH and he got left behind some cars. Obviously with his 496 HP car, he didn't have any skill to keep up.

It was quite an experience and I can now add this to my books of an E55 AMG getting owned by my 545i.

First of all the E55 is 469, the S55 and SL55 are 496 - they detune the E because it is a lesser class to MB. Anyway, there's no way on earth you could smoke an E55 - from 70-onward those things are absolute madness - any rolling acceleration is almost unmatched by any other car because of that supercharger.

I had an '03 E55, and you are absolutely correct--it is scary fast. 516 lb/ft of torque is very potent! Those twin screws really work. Crusing, for example, at 80 mph, you hit the gas and get pressed into the seats like a plane taking off...

he didn't "want" to keep up.... the E55 is an awesome car....

469 vs 496 HP... who cares..... it's still 50% more power than the 545i... everyone know's the E55's are underrated.... they are consistantly putting down 440+ HP to the rear wheels!

can't wait for the first real E55 vs M5 battle... I think the E55 will take the new M5 in straightline accerlation.... we'll see....

Well the way i look at it we all know that the car is a beast, but if you can't drive in traffic and anticipate cars that are ahead and that are not in your way 469 or 496 is not as good as 325 that the 545i is putting out. He did say that the guy got hung in traffic and i can not wait till an all out e55 vs the beast m5

Well, I was contemplating to buy either an E55 or E60 last year and did go with the E60 ofcourse

I spent about 2 months to make that decision and I know the E55 inside out. The car actually produces 496 HP but MB doesn't market the E55 at 496 because then they would be downplaying their flagship cars *(hence the 469 marketing number )

I never said that I smoked him from 0 - 60 or a quarter mile run. I smoked him driving through traffic....he kept up until i slowed down because of cop hiding spots. then he blew past me doing about 130 mph while I was down to doing 75 mph. I guess in traffic its all about skill and not speed

Yes, the E55 AMG is like no other but the E60 won my vote hands down because of the technology and the sofistication BMW provides. And not to mention the handling

Absolutely not.. the test has already taken place... it loses, with 1 person in the W211 E55 and 4 people in the E60 M5; M5 wins.
