It could be less of a problem- One of the emission valves (external) could be malfunctioning that vents crankcase pressure.
+1

Item 13, one on each valve cover, could be the culprit. With the mileage you've recorded they're more than likely due for service/replacement.

The item 13 the last owner changed to and i looked that thouse valves are ok. And motor damage is out of a question because engine has very good torque! And are not taking oil!
Jes there are a ticking noise.

Worst case is worn rings or valves (valve guides/valve stem seals) like penetta mentioned.
Miguex had a good suggestion. Pull your spark plugs and check their color. Maybe that'll help in your diagnosis.
Not a lot of high mileage e60s around to draw information from. With yours and your friends doing the same thing
it may become a problem for many as these cars age.

Hi, i have a E60 545 and now i have a little problem. so, when the car works normally(driving) its all ok,but when i am stoping and engine works (so 1-5minutes) and then going away ,then the car blows a lot of blue smoke..
I have made the engine diagnose and all looks ok, but still i think it not normal!?
Many thanks,
Risto
You are burning oil, and aside from smelling wonderful (might be just me) it is something you should have checked out!

So,i have made many diagnose test and there come up a little problem. The first and fifth silinder are not working ok! BMW center sayd that it must be a mechanical problem, they think that it may be valvetronic shaft, rocker or something. We then opend the motor on top but the valvetroniv shaft looked ok.
And there where no oil in spark plugs!
Maybe somebody have the sama problem and can can help me
