E60 535i China intercooler and trans cooler relocate/upgrade
Though I would share my install of an amazon huge $400 intercooler and a custom trans cooler relocate/ upgrade.
I ordered a tuning performance E60 535d intercooler from Amazon in late July with a 4 week arrival time. I hopped it would come sooner, but they weren’t kidding. Upon initial inspection it appears to be identical to the Wagner EVO for $750. Fin density looks good and the welds are good too. Fitment for the E60s is perfect. Standard cutting of front plastics was required. The connections and location of the hot and cold side pipes is the same as well.
As you can see the trans cooler has been removed, with the stepped intercooler and radar cruise I knew it wouldn’t work. So I hunted down a good cooler and decided to run a fan for the setup. I had to hunt down switched power and figure out mounting and thermostat location. I used a threaded brass thermostat but I will be switching to an in-line 6an cooler soon. (Now that I know the exist.) total cost was about $100 in parts.
Cooler location with mounting. Current thermostat location (still needs a ground). Will be changing to an in-line 6an fitting. Relay mounting point. In line fuse. Switched power from inside Ecu box. Trans cooler line routing.
Let me know if you have any questions. I will update with a final installed photo in a few days.
After about a week with the intercooler setup installed it appears to be running well. These are a few runs from a stop to about 55 mph. Ambient temps were about 88 at the time.

How does this compare to before youmade these changes?
Much better. Unfortunately I lost my logs as the Android tablet I was using bricked on me. But in 100 degree weather I would see iats in the 120-125 range after a few pulls possibly higher. this log above was after about 4 pulls.

Yes, but that was at 88 F, not 100 F. With air heat ex-changers ambient air temperature is the biggest factor in determining the exit temperature. IOW, no matter the size of the cooler, one cannot cool below the ambient air temperature. You will know if your set-up is better only when you run at the same (100 F) anbient air conditions.

As it is much closer to ambient vs stock I am sure it is safe to say it is better than stock also the fact that the temperature is consistent throughout the pull we can assume it is an improvement. Unfortunately I cannot request a 100 degree day to make an apples to apples comparison, or if I do it'll be here in 9 months.
We'll see I guess. The improvement (temperature) might not be as much as you hoped and certainly not as much as implied by the supplier. And as for the reduction in pressure drop, with turbos pressure drop downstream isn't much of a concern, manufacturers' claims notwithstanding.
Hey all, Been a while. Had our first 100 degree day. Happened to take logs of the intercooler only 12-13 degrees above ambient at 15 psi. I thought this might be helpful for those considering this intercooler. https://datazap.me/u/535xrayindigo/1...ta=1-4-6-10-24
