My e60 530d was last serviced by a main dealer in December. So when I picked up the car, it was showing as 17k miles to the next oil service. Great.

Since then, I've done around 2k miles. We're in London, so just use the car at weekends to do 20-50 mile journeys out of London. It never does short trips to the shops. I always keep the revs below 2k when the car is cold. It's rarely driven hard apart from the odd squirt coming on to a motorway.

The car now says it wants an oil service in 1.5k. What the? Eh? No I didn't misread and leave out a 0. Can this be right?

If the car does the journeys like you say it does then something is deffinately up. You should get at least 13k miles on the trips you are doing if not more.

The CBS is a bit erratic, to say the least.

Sounds like a bug in the works, dealer should be able to resolve.

Can the dealer set the remaining mileage to run? The car was in for a warranty repair a couple of weeks ago (gearbox oil pan seal). Could they have messed something up if they'd hooked it up to the computer then?

Not had time to take it to a dealer. However I've done another 200 miles and it now says I have 1.6k left. Bizarre!

Mine was oil serviced in March the day before I went to Cadwell Park on my track day, since then I have done 5k ish and still have 14k left on oil service, like you I do not rev the engine when cold, but on average I drive my car much harder than you due to my location and roads in my immediate vacinity, ie small town surrounded by quick A roads and slow old gits and lorries doing 40mph, thus plenty of overtakes.

You surely have something wrong .
