I am in the IT industry and have to say that from bitter experience I do not trust Car Manufacturers with Software (If you doubt me look at all the posts around Bluetooth)

What are the Best and Worst distances that people are driving before the computer (CBS) tells them they need a service. My Car is telling me that having done 20K miles since my last service I do not need one for another 16K miles. That number seems VERY large to me, am I a great driver or will the mileage next week jump from 16K to 0K?

I must say as I have the Service Pack option with BMW I am now thinking that this was a bad buy given how few times it has to be serviced in the 1st 60K miles.

 

My 530d has 3340 miles on it and its telling me the service is due in 4800miles. Could be to do with the 7 miles journey its doing twice a day though, I will query it when it goes in for a service.

 

that seems a very high milage. on my 520d i do 100 miles a day of 50mph average speed. my first service was at 21k (oil) and the 2nd is coming up at 37k (inspection). Oil is needed at 43k.

The milage seems to pretty much decrease linearly - but my journeys are pretty much the same every day

 

It won't be straight off the mileage you've done so far. It is more complicated in taking into account the short journeys, start-stop conditions, etc. etc.

There is a discussion somewhere in the net that even includes some formulas for the 5-green lights system, but the principal should be the same.
