Hi All,

Read lots of threads on several BMW e60 forums but I am a little confused about audio upgrade possibilities for a 2008 e60 528XI with 'standard' audio system

I understand the HU should not be replaced if I want to use the Idrive system after my upgrade
I would like to add a new amp and change the speakers:


Question: Do I need JL cleansweep or can I just replace amp and speaker?

Have not tried them myself but this seems like the most direct upgrade.

correct - if you have std audio you have a puny amp in the trunk (drivers side) that powers the subs only - the speakers in the car are powered off of the head unit. So to really do it right you either need the JL clean sweep or the audio control lc6i unit(I think that is the right one) - they both take speaker leads, clean them up and convert to preout so you can install amps - you will have to most likely rewire your speakers though as they go to the head unit (CCC) - if you are not experienced in this I would bring it to a reputable shop that has experience with BMW's
