Nickolas, I always thought the 300C weighed roughly about the same as a V8 E60 (3700 to 4000 lbs depending on spec)? It's certainly not a 5000lb vehicle!!

I stand corrected. Looking up the specs the V6 shows up at 3712 lbs and the Hemi at 4000lbs. Give a few more for the SRT. That is still a heavy load added for any engine.

Again, you are comaring the 525i not the 550.

Not a hater, just my own personal taste, coming from my own personal experience...

I thought the US 525i was actually 3.0litre:

OP has the 2004 525i (as I do) which has the 2.5L, 187hp powerplant.

Don't you hate the fact that the new series of engines were released less than a year after buying our 04's At least in my case :\ oh well..good to see BMW improving on a great car.

I wouldn't mind seeing what their SRT version can do side by side with a BMW V8 though.
As many 300c's that are around here I've yet to see a SRT-8 version on the streets. I see a good 20-25 300's a day. Especially here in Santa Ana. That would be an interesting high speed race considering the SRT-8 has a top speed limiter of 173mph

Found this on the net:

http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-a...-8-1004811.html

"In one respect the 300C SRT-8 does trump its distant AMG cousins. Whereas they are limited to a top speed of 155mph, find a clear stretch of autobahn and youll go sailing by in the SRT-8, its top speed of 173mph somewhat astounding given that with a drag coefficient of 0.36 and a frontal area of 25.8 square feet, the 300C is only marginally more aerodynamic than an advertising billboard."

I was a previous owner of a Chry 300. It was a very nice American car. It also is a very very heavy car at over 5000 lbs. For as heavy as it is, it handles very well. Needless to say I the sure footedness of any 5-series will blow the doors off any 300.

The reliability of the 300 also comes into question. It is horrible. There are more bugs in the 300 than a roach motel.

Also when the 300 look is dated next year the 5 will still look fresh and classy.
I was also a 300 owner, I owned the M though. I liked the car a lot actually for what it was. It was a quick car for it's class. Also, the seats I feel are better than my current sports, but you can't have it all.

Reliability is a joke in that car though. I had an alternator, radiator fans, battery issues *Not battery, but wiring and connectors,* just little things here and there that peck at you. All these issues pushed me over the edge for American cars and now I am in the European market. I have had a smile on my face ever since!
