Greetings folks,

My 2006 530Xi Engine died at 52.5K miles.( well it was driving - however unknown knocking / grinding noise from lower part of engine could not be diagnosed by BMW or otherwise, NO Faults detected on Screen / NO SEL ). BMW informed me that after 3 weeks of techs looking around, they could not find the reason, and I needed to replace the engine. They offered to do it at a discounted price of 14K + taxes. I took it to my local indie Mech, and he said he could replace the engine with an 2007 for about 7.5 K including all parts and labor. He insisted to go to a 2007 engine as they had changed and updated a few parts that were deemed faulty on the 2006 engine etc.

Well now I have the car back, and it seems to be running great. I however notice that I am not getting the same mileage that I was getting with the 2006 engine. It seems to get me around 28 mpg on the highway whereas I recall getting 30 mpg on the highway.

I was wondering if I need to update the DME or ECU software to reflect the change in the engine from 2006 to 2007?

Thanks for your help

Regards,

This is weird, and I'm not talking about the MPG issue.
