The same with summertime high temperatures, may only be 13.2v or so with engine running on a hot August afternoon.
Do you have a source that directly correlates temp to voltage? Its was in the 30's when I measured 15.3 V?

Thanks

However at this points its a possible clue as to what might be wrong with this car.

You bring up a good point , does any one have a good handle on the detailed distinction between registering and reprogramming modules when it comes to battery changes? Can it be done with INPA? I must be a real moron because the I can not fully understand some of the threads on this site. The "Idiots guide to INPA helps but some general summary type info is missing.

thanks
Here is the document I used to register the battery the last time. It also includes instructions for changing the battery type or battery capacity.

Yes to my own question, just read it thanks. So should I get this old lap top and do this INPA thing? Will that work on a 2008 528 xi?

I think you'll need NCS Expert and Tools32. I ran these in a XP virtual machine on my Mac.

Hey, Just wanted to say I'm having the same problems. 2008 528xi , crank no start but second time i try it turns on with a rough idle. I took it to the shop they said its the Crank Sensor. I dropped it off today and got a call saying my Harmonic balance has a wobble and is causing a nasty squeal. they want 300 for the sensor fixed and 700 for the Harmonic Balance.

Try this document "Energy Management"...

Not the one I was looking for but a good starting point.

If you have INPA running already, the software you installed probably has the others as well. If not, do some searching for INPA cables and software. I got my OBD K+DCAN cable off ebay. Make sure you don't just get a K-only cable. Most all the downloads I've seen have NCS Expert and Tool32 included.

Interesting, so are you thinking my battery may not have been registered, thereby weaking the battery. As a result the energy management system shut off loads.

Most of the loads i see which are capable of being shut down are communication related and not start related. Am I reading this right?

Another intesesting point in this document seams to indicate that the maximum charging voltage is 14.8V. Mine is at 15.3V, after a full charge at 34 deg. There should be no reason to overcharge.

Here again, the only thing that makes sense to me, is the CAS was not coded correctly for the AGM battery?

Does anyone know what the ah ( amp/hours) for the original battery for this car would have been?
