[/quote]Really, or, are you doing a December April fool's joke?--like someone else perpetrated--funny though. If true, the sound doesn't come through the L7, or whatever, does it?

No, not intended to be a joke, pretty sure it does, and plays as normal (as per the regular CD slot). The Nav drive won't play DVD audio discs or DTS discs (which is what I was *hoping* it did), but if I recall correctly you can play an audio CD from that drive.

vnod, you put some doubts in my mind so I just went out to the office car park to retest this and can confirm it's right, the Nav DVD drive indeed does play music CDs, it also supports CD-Text and yes, the L7 adjustments are also available.
What I would *like* to try is whether I can use something like Toast Titanium to burn standard .aiff CD audio files but onto a recordable DVD (i.e taking the capacity from around 640 MB to around 4.7 GB, effectively getting four or five CD's worth of music onto one disc.) Not sure if it's possible to do this (i.e. burn a DVD-R as though it were a CD-R) but if so it might come in handy.

I don't think the disk thickness would be an issue, regular CD-R's work fine and DVD-R's are pretty identical in terms of dimensions (a double layer DVD-R might be a little thicker). The primary issue here is whether you could burn a DVD but have it read as through it were a CD. Toast on the mac lets you create a lot of stuff that you can't normally do with burnable media so I'm going to at least give it a whirl and see how I get on.
