I have the Dunlop run flats on my 550i. After reading all the posts about the issues with the Dunlop's I talked to my Service Manager when I got the car and he told me that the problems have been fixed. I don't know if that is true or not, but the tires on my car are noisy and tramline like crazy. This may be more of a general runflats issue than Dunlop specific. If I wind up having uneven wear, noise or other issues, I will have them replaced by BMW at no cost but will have them replaced with Bridgestones which get much better reviews on Tire Rack. If I get normal wear with no problems, I will replace them with non-run flats (probably Bridgestone Pole Position).

I had Dunlop run-flats that BMW NA replaced with Bridgestone run-flats due to noise and odd wear. The Bridgestones seemed somewhat better regarding ride and noise. I just replaced the Bridegstones with Michelin PS2's due to the right rear Bridgestone wearing out after over 20K miles. I wanted to get maximum value out of the Bridgestones, but I now regeret not having replaced them sooner. I beleive that the standard tires make the e60 a more comfortable car. It's now much quieter and rides much better, but seems to handle the same. Many others on this board have claimed the same experience but some still prefer the run flats which do provide a somewhat better feeling of steering precision.

The Dunlops are hard relly hard (in the city) and the 245/40 18" has a bad tramlingin tendency.

The RF's just don't suit the E60 on bad roads.

On good freeways they are nice and not that noicy.

! BMW just uses us a test subject and that makes my furious !

I'm on my third set so I would say they have not fixed the problem. The good news is you can get six or seven thousand miles out of them before they get noisey and then you have a better than average chance of having them replaced for free.

If you are havng problems with the Dunlop RFT's you have to replace them before 20,000 miles,FREE. Mine were great up to 15,000 miles, then they got noisy before I had them replaced FREE. Sure they are a little hard riding and they do trammel but IMO the handling is very good and the suspension is designed around RFT's and again they are safe and you can't beat FREE.
cheers

Is this "FREE" business limited to Dunlop USA, or do Dunlop UK offer replacements as well?

(asks he who has just picked up a 3 year old 530d fitted with Dunlop run flats)

Only in North America. AFAIK other BMW in other countires is not providing free replacement of Dunlops. Search this board and you will find all sorts of older posts on the topic. This might be a good place to start: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=8291
