OK, just checked the new bmwusa website ti find out and it sucks compared to the old
Also they cahnged option packages
in the 525xi sport package you get no new wheels
but you canupgraqde to the 122's for $300 - it seems you can do this now without the sport package and before you ahd to order it before you got the discount on wheels
same for the 530xi - standrad wheels on the sport package, but for a few hundred can get 123 18's that are the same all around
so my question is can you get teh upgraded wheels on the car without getting the sport package first - if you can this is different - 300 for rim upgrades is a good deal
and can you upgrade to the 122's with the 530xi
more questions fewer answers
anyway - the point is as of now the xi's eevn with sport have the same size tires all around

The tyre centre I used when I had my E39 used to give a guaranteed minimum mileage that the tyres would cover before needing replacement. The only condition to this guarantee was that I brought the car back at every 6,000 mile interval. They would then rotate the tyres front to rear and check the wheel alignment. I also seem to think that they would rotate them diagonally so FR became LR, but that was OK on the Conti's I had on because they were not directional like the ones on my E60. (I guess you could rotate diagonally if you get the tyre turned on the rim as well?)

So has anyone actually rotated tires front to back ?

Yes, but only when I change tires for the season.
Always put the better ones rear!

I was always under the impression that tires should not be rotated, since.... when they wear in and you now rotate them, you are now changing the dynamics of the handling of the car. Just my thoughts.

1. You are being hosed by your dealer; it is his responsibility. However given this intro, I'd take the guys at Tire Rack any day. They are knowledgeable.
2. I have ALWAYS rotated front to back, on all of my high performance 5 series over the past nearly 20 years, notwithstanding what they say in the manual. This car (545iS) will end that summer tire practice due to staggered sizing; however, my winters are 17s (from TireRack) and the same size all around, so they will get rotated.
3. BMW has a peculiar track record on tires and wheels. They seem to take the "low bidder" supplier approach. It's a long anecdotal story, but if you're interested I'll tell you what I have observed since 1987.
Get 'em replaced under warranty, and go for non-runflats.
Cheers,
Ray Hull
PS: And if the Tire Rack guy tries to avoid/negate the claim, based on the fact that you didn't rotate them, show him the manual, or this thread...lol
