Thumbs up

I've turned 12K mi and have noticed that my rears are down to the wear bars. Contrary to popular belief I don't beat on my car. I drive it spiritedly, but don't spin my tires on a regular basis. Yes, I've posted a "strip" and have confirmed that limited slip doesn't exist. Anyway, does anyone out there have around the same mileage as me? How are your tires holdine up? My fronts are pretty low as well.

I've got about 5k miles on mine and don't notice any wear yet, but yikes! that seems awfully fast wear on yours!

I do drive mine hard, especially on curves

I have around 8200 miles and my rears aren't going to last another season (snow tires will give me a break here soon). My fronts are a little better but just yesterday, I noticed a little bubble in the sidewall of one tire due to a pothole (no damage to wheel -- I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do about it -- winter tires will be mounted as soon as it snows to buy me some time.)

I don't light-up the tires either but in my experiences, this early wear in the rear is pretty normal for this type of tire on a car with this much torque. On my '98 E39, I was able to extend the life a bit more by rotating because the front and rears were the same size. On my '01 E39, according to my changeover records, the rears were bald at around 14,800 miles. Since that car had different sizes front to rear, I wasn't able to rotate them.

I have 11,150 on my car and my tires look great, just checked them. No reason to believe that won't go another 11,000. I drive pretty hard over winding roads & high speed freeway. It is usually just me in the car, no weight and I haven't "smoked" them very often. (the tires alohalc)

That bubble in the sidewall is an impact break. I've had quite a few in my past. You want to seriously consider getting that replaced. There is no repair for it. I'd avoid any high speed driving with it.

I usually can get around 15K to 18K out of tires like this. I was just wondering if it was me or the car. No real concern.. just curious. New sneakers will go on after the snows come off. At this point, I'm going to run the factory tires for another week or so and get "the rest" of them put to good use before the snows go on.

My Ride: 2005 545i 6spd sport, nav, cwp, sirius, logic 7. on order 128 wheels non run flat tires.

Have a 540i 6speed that came with dunlops and the only lasted for about 12,000 .

the noise level was worse then the tire wear. After much discussion with dunlop tire they agreed to pay for 2 tires. I already went through that set and now i have bridgestone on and they are no better. I think it's the suspension not the tire.

anyway i love the car and will order a new 545i 6 speed at the end of my lease ,just one year away. Just in time for the 2006model.

How's about Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S front 245/40/18 $150, rear 275/35/18 $186 at tirerack.com for new rubber?

Anything with an M&S after it will not be of interest to me for the summer months. I am not necessarilly looking for cheap, I'm just looking for good.
