Was it raining? Were the roads slick? If so, then there's nothing to worry about, it's just doing it's job keeping the car pointed where you want. If it's dry and the roads have grip, then there might be an issue.
Also, as mentioned above, if you hit the button the light will turn on and stay on until it's pressed again. Pretty easy to hit the button too, I've done it a few times.

i thought i did but then I followed instructions in the manual to recativate and it ddin't work, idrive stated needed service. then it went away magically. weird.

You could have a faulty DSC module or the wiring to the DSC could have a short. I have a 2004, and my DSC module had to be replaced. I'd keep an eye on it, and if the DSC light keeps coming off and on, they I'd have the dealer look at it.

I had a similar thing happen when I just got my car. I noticed it intermittently turns on as I turn the steering wheel. It turned out to be a bad SZL module. No problem since.
