IMHO - While DCS is a wonderful thing the car is so much more fun to drive with the whole thing turned off !!!

So, this does sound like a lot of changes have happened. Odd for this to happen mid-year. New engine, new braking system, servotronic added, and different pricing. Sounds like BMW are either hurting from the current US exhcange rate, and need good reason to revise it, or sales of the 5 are poor and need an urgent injection of excitement.

So is the Servotronic speed-proportional power steering they refer to = Active Steering?

When I bought my E60 at the start of last year in the UK. There were to extra options available to be added to the standard power steering i.e. Servotronic Steering and the more expensive Active Steering which included the Servotronic Steering. So to answer your initial question "So is the Servotronic speed-proportional power steering they refer to = Active Steering?". I think the answer is No. Unless BMW are being really generous.

Indeed. Servotronic is speed dependent weighting. Active Steering is speed dependent geering.

My Ride: Oxford Green E60 530D with tuning box and all the toys!

"Soft Stop" sounds good - no matter how hard I try, I can't keep from jerking the car to a halt because of the automatic box. I can knock it into neutral, but that's a pain in stop start traffic. It's easy in a manual of course.

I've been trying for 30 years now, and I'm getting pretty good at it, but I haven't mastered it yet!
