Default DS or MT mode for drag racing

Hey guys, I am hoping someone can answer this for me. I know DS mode has later shift points than the normal mode and will allow you to take it to redline if you want, but it feels like it actually has more power too. Does the tune change when it goes into DS mode, and if so, my followup question... would it change in MT mode as well?

I am curious which would be the best mode to drag race in, DS mode or MT. My car is an 06 530.

AFAIK no tune change in effect ... as you already know the shift point is different in DS (ie. at higher RPM) in M you do the upshift manually and the car will assist (you can take over) in downshift.

For more control drive in M ... that's what I do also 'cuz I retrofitted paddle shifter steering wheel so I prefer driving that way.

GL!

are you talking about SAT ? if so yes DS + SB
if you don't have SAT then just DS

I am not a drag racer but i tried couple of times all combinations from the dead stop on my 2010 550i M Sport
and DS + SB was the best one
Man this car is crazy FAST ... still it feels like a big boat on a HW even with M Sport pkg when y go 100+ MPH
My another E39 is not that fast but man when you go 100+ on a HW this car feels 10 times better

^^^ +1 - DS plus SB seems to turn my 2010 535 m-sport into a beast.

If not SB I would say DS because it is optimized to shift at the right points, when in M you may leave it in gear too short or too long.

Mine seems faster if I short shift around 5k in manual mode, starting in M2. Turbo though...

Yep. Your power curve drops off significantly after 5k with the stock map. If you run a tune then with the additional boost and advanced timing, aka e85 love, it will bump up to around 6k rpm before your power curve drops off.

I would say don't drag race a 5 series, If you must however for whatever reason, stay in DS mode.
