Hi,

Our canadian cars has DRL, wich means during the day, the light (to closest to the center of the hood) are always On. Is it possible to make a switch so the rings light up instead of the regular headlight ?

Have you tried the Vehicle Settings in the iDrive? (press down on joystick at main menu)

You can disable Daytime Running Lights in there.

I don't think you can do this on a Canada car...

The quick answer to the original poster's question is, "No, you can't do it." That said, there may be someone skilled enough to do something custom but I don't think it would be a simple project. In addition, I think that type of modification might make the car illegal as far as the Canada DRL laws are concerned...

Rudy,

You are correct that DRL's are required on CDN cars. Currently, there is a "low beam" on the halogen side of the high beams (bi-zenons) that acts as the DRL. It cannot be altered from within iDrive.

As an interesting sidenote, I drove the new 335i and it has angel eyes only for DRL's so it must be legal in Canada. As you said, perhaps a software hack might be what is required.

I had my dealer disable my DRL so now I just have to turn my light switch to the first position on the right and the only thing that lights up are the rings. I don't know if a Canadian dealer would do that, but a US dealer sure will.

DRL's are optional in the US so it's pretty standard to have the dealer change the settings as the customer requests. In Canada, the DRL's are required so I'm thinking there's no way a Canadian dealer would disable them...

Well, I suppose if the dealer wouldn't do it for you, you could take the DRL bulb out and replace it with a resistor. That way your car will think that they are on but they wont be. I did that with an '01 3 series and didn't have any problems.

In Canadian E60 all you have to do is to turn the light knob 1 click and the DRL will be off and only the angel eyes will be on. That's exactly how I do it

The inside light (DRL light) actually remains on in conjuction with the angel eyes. At least that is the case on my car.
