They used to say, "Take it out on the four-lane and burn the cobs out of it."
Who said that, Lincoln or Franklin?

It's a bit amusing to read it's because of BMW
Any car out there properly maintained and warmed up, there is not a single problem running the car hard.
It is not all down due to BMWs. Sure, there will be "theoratically" more wear and tear on chassis,
engine, drivetrain, tires, etc. However, assuming one will properly maintain the vehicle,
you won't see the difference at all between babying the car vs. drive like you stole it
under 200k miles.
There are no proves that running the car hard all the time will be more prone to breakdowns.
It's usually because 95% out there do not properly maintain their cars reflecting their "own" driving styles.
It's a common sense that if you run a car hard, your engine oil life will be shorten, thus more frequent/early
oil change is required. But will avg Joe follow that simple logic? He will look at his oil change reminder sticker on the windshield, and say
oh I'm still good to go.

Constant high revving won't cause more wear and tear than shift at 3k. It will cause more breakdown on engine oil and other lubricants upto a point where there are no more protection available.
The problem rises when the lubricants are shot but still drive hard.
That's why you change your oil after tracking.

I'm willing to bet people who drive their bmws hard but changed engine oil
at 5k vs drive gently but go with bmw 15k interval, the first engine will have less wear and tear.

My point is, drive however you want, just change oil frequently!!

I drive in Sports Mode, often reving past 5000 RPM as a daily driver. Currently at 39K miles.
How long should this fun last before the engine finally bites the dust - taking into consideration
occasionally servicing (air filters etc) as required.

Car is 2004 530i. Should I cut back on the aggressiveness as it wasn't designed to be a sports car.
I had a'97 540i drove her hard all the time. She departed this beloved earth in Oct prematurely due to a wreck. I honestly believed she was destined for 300k mile s or more

BMW's are designed for high RPM's so I would not worry. I used to build engines(yes they were ford) but ran that car 70K doing many many many ect..... redline 1/4 mile shots and never once had an issue. Now if you were to say run it in 3rd gear at red line non-stop then maybe it could cause and issue.

I know a kid I went to highschool with who was lucky enough to have an 4.4L X5. He would floor the car at EVERY traffic light. We took it off road every week. He sold it right at 100,000 miles and he had no major mechanical problems, I think a few radiator hoses. Amazing engineering.
