"Drive it like you stole it". The police in Germany use BMW's. Cold starts, high speeds, idling, and quick shutoff is the typical police detail. There was a study done that compared failure rates between the police vehicles and private ones. Nothing was determined to be signficant in police use.

It cleans out the Carbon deposits thats why, also if you just tootle around like a poof all the time the plugs on petrol cars can get dirty for example

I beleive you always always have to let it warm up, I just wait until the rev counter indicator is right around, then I regularly run it up to red line, I have done this over 20000 kms in 2 years, it's never run better!
Especially in sport mode in 2nd, waaaaa on to the motorway! Of course, provided its safe (I'm a dad with kids) - isn't that why I bought it?
Buy a small engined merc if you wish to pootle round.
