My car was in for service, yet again, and one of my complaints was the horrible cup holders. The dealer replaced mine with a new one and it actually works. It holds firm and does not put the cup into some funny angle. Even when the cup is empty it still does not push it out. I did a visual comparison to an older e60 and there IS a difference in the new holder. The lower arm that the base of the cup sits on is less angled and points more straight down. The cup sits lower in the holder as a result of the arm being lower. I will take a picture and post the difference. I think they may have created a newer version of the cup holder. For instance....if you had a version 1.0 of the Motorola V710 snap-in adapter it would not charge the phone. BMW created a new verison number but the part number stayed the same. The new version (2.0) worked just fine. (If your car was wired properly in the first place.)

Maybe they modified the dup holder too. It is funny that the fact that the cup holder works in a 65,000.00 car excited me more than anyhting else that has been fixed. I think if something annoys you this badly it just feels great to have it finally fixed.

I can believe a working cup holder would create such joy. Sadly my dealer just treated me like a time waster when I enquired about cup holders that held cups rather than ejected them.

Evenflow, dreaming: (If I got one of those, maybe I could move up to a 32-ounce bourbon and water, for the road.)

My brother owns a 545i and he really dislikes the cup holders. So please send pics if you can.

Yours truly,
Ron

Yes.... the design fault with the E60 cup holders is that the support for the bottom piece angles inward. This causes the cup to lean.

It is absolutely miraculous that a company which can develop such fine automobiles cannot figure out how to make a piece of plastic hold a cup of liquid.

I really don't care if Europeans drink in their cars or not. I live in the USA, and we do. This should not be a difficult task.

Just remember... It's the same company that's unable to give us MP3 playback. And that's easier than designing a cup holder...

E60 drivers don't have coins, just bills.

So, having said that... there is a holder:
