Question Drivers comfort question.

I cannot believe I have forgotten to ask other '04 E60 525i drivers this question but I cannot find a truly comfortable seating position in my car especially on extended road trips. Two weeks ago myself, my father and his sister drove almost 1K round trip miles to Cross Plains, TX and back to Houston for a family reunion and I had to pull over every hour or so and exit the car. I have never had this issue with all my past vehicles yet then again I have never owned a vehicle with so many different seat adjustments.

I love everything about the vehicle accept this issue; are there seating alternatives such as a direct replacement from other E60 series 5 series? Thank God I drive less than 10 miles a day or I would be in Hell!!!

There's several different seat packages. I have the comfort seats and the are very soft and comfortable. I have been in some that are not though. Not sure if you have the side bolsters and thigh extensions but these also help.

No sir I do not have either of those seat options. Funny thing is I drove nothing but MR2's from '85 until '06 and I never had this issue and those seats were very basic regarding adjustments. I just find it rather odd and disheartening that when I finally purchase a high-end vehicle I cannot find a seating position that is comfortable after one hour of seat time.

My wife complained bitterly about the seat comfort in my car on the way out to Saskatchewan a couple of weeks ago. I had her drive for a shift and found her seat was in the most amazingly contorted position (comfort seats with the spilt pivot backrest and 8 billion other adjustments). After fiddling for a while I got the passenger seat comfy for me and when we switched again she was amazed how comfortable the seat was. Funny thing: no matter how she tried to adjust it, it just wasn't comfortable.

I know what you mean. I had an older e60 that had the standard seats once. They were very firm and not much on bolsters. I would agree they were not comfortable. The high end comfort seats for my sweet ass I really love. If you get a chance go sit in them. Ok, their not for everyone, but I really enjoy sitting in them.

I may look into direct replacement upgraded seats down the road.

I have the comfort seats in my 530 and my wife complains all the time. Her X5 has the regular seats and she is happy there

Since I've had either multi-contour or 'sports' seats in my last 4 BMWs I can't directly comment on why you're having difficulty finding a good driving position with standard seats on your e60. However, with the wide range of settings - even with the 'standard' seat - it might take some time to find one that's right for you. Certainly moving from a small sporty Toyota to a larger sedan you've had to make lots of changes ... maybe your back needs a little more time.

If that doesn't work I've read some posts about swapping out standard seats for the BMW multi-contour version ... with those you'll have more adjustments to consider than an insurance policy!
