Hi Folks,

I am getting the same issue in 2005 BMW 525i (E60). Please see below.

I am getting a "Drive Control System. Drive Moderately" message on the iDrive display and a yellow triangle with circle on the instrument cluster if I drive it like 15-20 miles (on highway, local where ever). The message goes off after a few minutes, but the yellow triangle remains (I think its a traction control indicator in instrument cluster). This seems to happen intermittently and corrects itself if I turn the ignition off and then back on again. Not sure what should I do or if it a serious issue or something. Any help would be appreciated.
Attached are the pics of the message and the light.

Thanks

Take it to the dealer and get the SZL fixed or replaced...or...I have also read on other forums that some people took the steering wheel apart and just blew out all the dust using an air can. Supposedly, the older version of the SZL was prone to dust and dirt and just needed cleaning. Also, call BMWNA and provide your VIN. It could be under recall.

Thanks for the reply. I called up BMWNA but they said there is no recall on the car. Do I need to replace SZL quickly or can I drive the car just like it. Can it cause more issues down the road if I don't get it fixed now? I am afraid of the charges as the car has no warranty.

I'm not sure if it might cause more issues down the road but the best thing to do would be to either get it fixed asap or if you can't right away don't drive the car. Just my personal opinion.

In the past i was having the same error along with ABS and the fault was caused becose the diferences of the tyres between front(205/55/16) and rear axel(215/65/16).When i put the same tyres all error dissapear.
Rut a test on INPA or DIS and post the error code if you could.

OK, I had the car scanned. Its comes out to be faulty Steering angle wheel sensor. They had it reset for now. Not sure what this sensor do and if it gonna help break more things in the car. They gave me an estimate of $1000 to replace it. Don't know if I need to fix it quickly or what.

Just drive moderately, as the idrive says. It measures how much you're turning the wheel at any given speed. Then it would tell the DSC how much more torque to put on the outside rear wheel in a turn.
Keep an eye on it. If the error comes back, get it fixed. The DSC helps the car handle better in cornering. It's similar to Acura's Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD), but just the rear wheels.

I would have someone with a GT1/OPS/OPPS computer read the fault codes. Resetting the steering angle sensor may help if the car's alignment was somehow altered.

This sounds like a Steering Angle sensor problem but the turn signals cancel correctly, so I'm hoping that a reset of the sensor may take care of the problem.

Some posters have indicated that the sensor can be reset by simply turning the steering wheel from lock-to-lock, centering it and turning the ignition off and then back on again. Others say that you must disconnect the battery for 15 minutes, then reconnect before doing the reset procedure.

Does this DIY reset method really work and, if so, does it work with standard (non-Active) steering?
1/6/12 Update - Problem turned out to be a bad sensor module (located under front passenger seat). The part (#34526758750) cost $557 and the labor for diagnosis and replacement was $484. The work was done by a local independent shop and I shudder to think what it would have cost at a dealership.
