Most of the cars used for pro drifting are smaller, lighter, have been lowered and have high reving motors. I would buy a second car without all the technology for drifting before putting any 545 through that.
With the e60 being so heavy and having a 50/50 weight distribution, it will be difficult to maintain a drift, I would think.
Maybe somebody will prove me wrong. But what's the point?

It's his car, so let the guy have some fun. As long as he doesn't endanger anyone, what's the big deal?
I say you videotape your friend drifting in the e60 and post a vid.

My Ride: 2004 545i 6spd, blk on blk, HRE 540R 20x9 in front and 20x10 in rear with Pirelli PZero Neros 245/25/20 front and 295/25/20 rear. H&R springs, and Eisenmann quad exhaust, V! radar detector, black grille, limo tint all around.
I took my 545i 6-spd to the track not long ago; before I put my HRE rims on. And did a few drift sessions with the 545i. I had the DSC totally turned off and just jammed thru the track. At the time, my car was completely bone stock, no rims, suspension or exhaust and the car drove great on the track. And eventhough the car is heavy and doesn't have an lsd, it definitely wasn't all too hard to drift the car. I was even catching up to an M3, but I'm probably sure thats b/c the driver ahead of me didn't want to go all out. But like what the other boardmembers said, it's definitely better to do the drifting on a track/closed course. Doing it in the rain right now would be asking to get into an accident. Other than that, tell your friend to have fun with his 545i while he still has it.

Aloha
We're talking Mitsubushi Lancer Evolution (VII or VIII now?) right? Oh wow, I didnt know they're imported to the US. Regarding Skyline, I know, its aka Nissan Z350 right? It's losing its originality. The Skyline used to be such a breed of its own. GTR V-spec rocks !!!
Oops seriously "drifting" off topic....
Bunbun.
PS I know a guy here in HK who completely converted an old AE86 to look exactly like the one in the anime, down to the engine spec I heard.....crazy guy.

Ok so not an E60 but that was my old E39 528 touring. Auto. It could drift very nicely... even in the dry (but you really had to provoke it to get it sliding)... only issue was the gearbox trying to change up all the bloody time
My first impressions of my E60 ... it would do it VERY nicely... but i'm not going to try..... yet
