Default Door handle stopped working

Today it was -10 outside and the rear passenger exterior door handle stopped working. I thought the door might be frozen shut so I tried from the inside and it opened right up. What do I need to buy to replace the handle? Is there a way to buy just the internals? Where is the best place to find one because the paint has to match up?

Hey mate,

I had the same issue with my rear door after having the tint removed (to get through the pits)... I opened up the internal door trim and found a cable that connects the external door handle to the locking and release mechanism, it wasn't attached to the mechanism, so I attached the cable to a hook I found on it and tried the external handle and it worked!

It could be the same issue?

That would be awesome.. Did you use a tutorial to get the door trim off?

Sorry mate I don't have a guide to go by, I just squeezed a lang flat head screwdriver around the edge of the trim and popped it off that way, I opened it up enough to reconnect the cable and all is good!

I made a diy a few years ago about removing the trim. Search my name and it should show up.

Alright guys, need a little more guidance. It finally warmed up enough to get outside and take off the door panel, but I still can't figure out what the deal is. The outside handle appears to open about 3/4ths of the normal amount and it is moving the latch cable, but it appears to need an adjustment or something.. It's just not pulling on the cable enough. I've got two videos (one inside and one outside to hopefully help)
Not sure why these shared to google+ what whatever...

What about the other end of the cable?

Are you sure it is not snapped. Check behind the sleeve. It looks like its doing what it is suppose to do. It is definitely the cable. Check the other end you might need to replace it.

Thanks for the help, just a few questions.

Are you talking about the bottom of the cable? What is the best way to get down there to check? Would a snapped cable keep the handle from opening up all the way?

It seems like the cable is moving from the pictures/video you showed. But, now you need to see the other end of the cable and if it is actually operating something on that side. I'm guessing something is broken or slipped off or maybe there is some adjustment. Just follow that black cable to the other end and see what it is connected to and what happens when you pull out the door handle.
