My Ride: 2006 525xi 3.0 215 horsepower 185lb/ft torque
Monocobleu Metallic paint, on beige interior..
Cold Weather Package... Heated front seats, steering wheel and headlamp washers.
Standard 10 speaker soundsystem.
Not the entire car, just the door, it shuts prefectly fine, but the bottom goes in too much, and the top sort of pops out. Regardless I will get it fixed by an authorized dealer...

Aside from allowing the other driver the chance to avoid the repercussions of his mistake,
(Don't let him off of the hook!
), If you go through insurance, you'll have a rental car for the duration of the repair. Also in all likelihood, this would not affect your insurance rates as the other driver has stated it was his fault entirely. I just hate to see a good person go through this because someone does not want to take full responsibility for their actions! Good luck and I hope they get your car back to you QUICKLY!

Xint advice right here. If you go the private route, if you're lucky he'll pay for the repairs at the cheapest cost possible. YOU WILL PAY for the rental car, missed work, phone calls, folllow-ups, yadda yadda. If the repair turns out to be shoddy, you can't call the insurance company and have their attorneys working for you.
With insurance, you make a claim and...that's about it. You send the car to an appropriate, reputed repair facility, grab your rental car, and have no worries. The insurance company will have the car repaired and go after the other party's insurance to recover. YOU don't have to make those calls wondering when he's gonna send you the money (I'll get that to you tomorrow...next week...next month....)

If it is only a big dent and the paint is fine, I bet a PDR guy (Paintless Dent Removal - like dentbusters) can fix it. We just had a guy out to our office and he was amazing! He showed me pictures of a dent caused by a truck backing into a door and he was able to get it out completely. Amazing stuff, just amazing....

The car that hit me was a 1998 Volvo S70, all he got was some scuffing on his bumper. As far as the PDR, i took the car to a body shop and basically the words that he said to me were. "This is a beautiful car, we are not going to try to butcher it just by hammering out the door, if we're gonna do it, we're gonna do it right..." And i couldnt help but to agree with him 100%. Right now insurance is going to take care of it, i will let you folks know the outcome.
