That's terrible. At least no one was hurt. Now the question... who gets to drive the 550i and who gets the loaner while the 530 is in the shop? I don't think he should get away without *some* form of compensation.

I don't think it is un-reasonable to ask your friend to pay for the difference in the increased insurance premiums. On the other hand, I would not even think about asking to drive the 550i again, considering the string of event that happened to your car. The 550i might be even more expensive to fix. Good luck with the repairs.

I only let close friends drive my car. Insurance concerns aside, no other persons than those that I trust whole heartedly will be in the driver's seat of my baby

However, I have been impressed by some kind souls who have allowed me to drive their car even though we didn't know each other very well. One kind soul allowed me to test his E60 M5 and his only condition was if I caused any problems I would take care of it. Needless to say, after test driving the M5 the E60 fell into my good books which eventually led me to order the 540i

I think it might only be a california law that I am liable since I gave him permission to drive the car...I'm not sure about that though. We still haven't worked out all the details and an insurance adjuster still needs to go look at the car and give his estimate.

The whole thing really was an unfortunate situation. I just want everything to get worked out and get the car fixed and back in the driveway...
