Ok so that wasn't bad either! Probably 1 hour, hardest part is rolling the old adhesive off with your fingers. Also a good opportunity to clean excessive grease out of your sunroof track. I put both front seats all the way forward including seat backs and there was plenty of room to climb in through the back door and stand up through the sunroof.
So why would the seal come with this sheet saying that coding is required after installation of the new seal? I rear about reinitializing the sunroof but no mention have I heard about coding. Anyone got anything on this?

@BlaSTiWi -could be? I just reinitialized it and everything seems to be working fine. Only problem is that I have now done both my Saturday projects on Friday night! Not a homer, wife is out of town on a girls night out and the two daughters are asleep.... Time for a well deserved beer!

@Margal... Yeah that is the part number that I replaced. I replaced it for excessive wind noise. When talking on my hands free Bluetooth I would have to close the sunroof shade when cruising above 45 mph as the wind noise was so bad.
Whereas the old seal was hard and "plasticky" when it came off the new one is quite spongy and appears to be of a slightly thicker design.

I have the same problem with my sunroof...noisy at even 25mph when closed. Did the new seal do the trick? So that's an OEM replacement right? You seemed to have tackled that pretty easily...how do you go about replacing it?

@andymax -it was very easy bud. Google DIY for it . as there is a real nice write up on it. I just added my .02 above. All wind noise gone now and car is nice and quiet. Big difference in the gasket you remove and the new one you put on

Is the seal around the glass or is it attached to the roof?
I just purchased my 550i about a week and a half ago and the service history report from BMW said the seal has been replaced before. If it has been replaced before, is it usually good from there on out? I'm not dealing with any abnormal wind noise or leaks but I would like to make sure it stays that way.

I don't know if they mean "coding" to be reinitializing. I never had to code anything when I did it.
aNo95 - It's stuck to the roof, not the glass. If yours was already replaced, then you should be fine because they redesigned the part (different part numbers and all). Also, the easy to way to see if you need to replace it is simply slide the shade closed at highway speed and see if the noise in the cabin gets softer. Trust me, you'll know the difference if it's worn out.

Te reason your car needs to be coded is because it is a much tighter seal and the sunroof module will think it is jamming. They changed the parameters.
I had the wind noise and leaking on my 550. Replaced the seal and since i previously updated the software, just had to reinitialize the sunroof and all was good.
TIP: for anyone that is thinking of doing this.
(1) Open sunroof
(2) Mark area where seal ends meet on roof with tape so you know where to start.
(2) Remove seal by peeling up or down and using thumb to rub residual tape off.
(3) Clean area with alcohol.
(4) Close sunroof
(5) Push sunroof seal down (do not remove tape strip yet) until it is flush and looks right.
(6) Peal a little tape off the seal and push back into place.
(7) Hold seal in place and pull plastic backing off of tape slowly at 45 degree angle upwards and/or more towards you.
((8) Once you reach near the end, cut to length and press into place.
(9) Open sunroof and press firmly all around seal.
(10) Initialize sunroof.
(11) Grab a cold one... your done!
