I was wondering if it is possible to do a tire burn out with the SMG? I have yet to try it, but want to know if any SMG owners have done it before. If so, how did you do it? thankz

joe
ey man....i just discovered how to use the launch control on my 545i....all i have to say is, is that its insane. you just ahve to hold the traction control until a caution sign shows up, that means that all computers are off, then put it in manual mode and turn on sport mode and hit the gas....it does a crazy burnout!!

Are you sure that's launch control?!? I think we're facing a big confusion here in terms we use.

I go to BMW San Diego. Only dealership in town that will provide a loaner. I did a European Delivery with an Atlanta delaership while working in the east coast last year.

What's the confusion with launch control? Or better yet what is your definition of launch control?

Launch control is designed NOT to burn tires... It is designed to launch the car with the maximum acceleration WITHOUT burnouts. At least that's SMGII from M3. I never drove E60 M5 or E60 SMG, but I imagine it's the same. Push the gearshift stick forward after DSC is off, keep it there while pressing accelerator... Then release the stick. Minimal ammount of slipage will occur.

In my undestanding launch control has nothing to do with the burnouts.

Well a launch of an E60 will result in a burnout -- that's just the way it is considering you have to disable traction control and the car dumps the clutch at around 4000 rpms...

We, SMG e60 owners, cannot hold to our desired rpms unlike the e46 SMG M3s. The car will determine when to drop the clutch and it's around 4000 rpms, I think.

That definition of LC is correct for M3 SMGII and Euro M5 SMGIII only.

With regular E60's SMGI and US spec M5 SMGIII, LC is simply a clutch dump and not designed to minimize wheelspin.
