Doesn't seem like many have 17 offset for the rears

So, I'm leaning towards 19 inch 166's or 167's and I have a couple of questions that I can't find an answer to with the search function. I noticed many members mentioned their rears are 28 offset and not 17. Is there a reason why or people just like putting spacers or go with 285 tires which is extra money spent. Will the rear have rubbimg issues if I decide to go 17mm offset with 275 tires and H&R sport springs?? Thanks for any feedback. Cheers!!

You'll be fine with that setup. My previous setup was 166 wheels ET:28, 12mm spacers, H&R Sport springs, and 275/30/19 tires. My offset with the spacers is 1mm less than yours. I never rubbed.

You won't be able to run 285/30/19 tires without fear of rubbing if you ever decide to go in that direction.

My Ride: 2008 550i ZSP with Style 167 wheels
Related question.
I understand that the 28mm offset of the M5/M6 166's or 167's wheels works on the rear of non-M E60's using 275/30/19 tires (the 19's that BMW lists as available for the E60 have 32mm offsets).
What about the front wheels on a non-M E60? Specs for 19" BMW wheels for the non-M E60's show an offset of either 20mm or 18mm (for example, the front 172's that come with the 550 ZSP have an 18mm offset) and spec a 245/35/19 tire. 166 and 167 wheels M wheels spec a 12mm offset. I've read a number of posts where guys are using the M 12mm offset wheels successfully on non-M E60's with the a 245/35/19 tire.
Given the offset difference (12mm vs either 18 or 20mm), will the 12mm offset 166's or 167's M-wheels work on a non-M E60 when you use a 245/35/19 tire (vs the 255/40/19 tire used on the M's), and will there be any issues?

Nice Q BMWSTL.
The "standard" 19" wheels are F 8x19 ET 20 or 8 1/2x19 ET 18 and R 9 1/2x19 ET 32.
Tyres 245/35 and 275/30.
The M 19" wheels are 8 1/2x19 ET 12 and 9 1/2x19 ET 28.
Tyres 255/40 and 285/35.
A "non-M" E60 with M wheels is OK but go with tyres F 245/35 19 and R 275 or 285/30 19.

Hey V-Gas and gentletypes here..
I'm heading down to Les Schnobs in about 10 minutes to finally have my M166's put on. I decided to NOT keep ANY of the stock M5 rubber. Sold the stock M5 rubber to a forum newby for his M. I had Les and his boys order T1R's in 245/35/19 and 285/30/19 to put on my 166's. This was the conclusion/decision i came to after much deliberation with the help of VTrash and a few others. I'm thinking it'll look / perform pretty well for my pantzy ass ways.
My only remaining question (which I'll shortly know the answer to on my own)... Do 285 rear tires REALLY make the back tires flush with the fenders?I guess I don't understand how putting a 285 on is the same thing as putting a .17 spacer on. Seems more that the rubber will hang over the edges of the rim more but I'm not sure I'd like that look as much as having the wheels out there further for all to see
I guess if what i just said is true - the bright side of this would be better Rim-edge protection from the curbs that tractor beam my schitt (all-hail 285 LOL)
welp - here i go. Wish me luck...
..and Vegas - if this setup looks like ass, I'm on the next plane to SoCal to ruff you up.
Later.
