Apple changed some of the pins and unlike the aftermarket iPod interface such as Dension you can not just change the OEM cable you have to use adapter check like Scosche.

GL!

What I've seen is no... Mine for an example, I have a 2008 535 LCI and have the factory aux and USB in the center console armrest. If I use the iPod nano everything is plays and charges. Anytime I connected my iPhone it would advise me that it was not supported and charging was not available. The device played music, it just would not charge. I purchased a 32 G touch and it did the same as the iPhone, no charging. BMW sells another adaptor that works with the 6FL adaptor. The additional adaptor has a power plug which requires it to be connected to a power source. I actually installed a power socket in the rear of my console where the new adaptor can connect then the 6FL connects to the new adaptor and the new adaptor connects to to the aux and usb. Everything now works! This was the only way my system would work. I have heard a few others charging with only the 6FL cable. BMW also put out a bulletin on this.

I can charge both my 3rd gen 32gb Touch, and my new Nano Touch. BTW - if anyone wants a 3rd gen Touch LMK - I have no use for it anymore.

I have the same issues with my LCI e60. My iPod Video charges fine but my iPhone won't. I don't use my iPhone for music so it's not a big deal. If I really need to charge my phone I have a aux charger that goes in the cigarette lighter.

Are you using the 6FL cable?

Using the OEM adapter cable that came with my 08 535i, my son's iPod charges.

I'm attaching the device that I had to order. "This allows charging for Apple iPhone and iTouch models while that device is connected through the vehicles USB/Audio interface. A must when streaming internet music which tends to deplete the iPhone?s battery fairly quickly. Tested and approved for automotive application. Fits conveniently in the center console storage compartment". as take form the site. My thought is at some point BMW realized this was a problem and corrected it... Other than this, it makes no sense why some car need it and others don't. the cost if you google it is around 75.00, not cheap, but I don't use it for my iPhone, only the larger capacity touch model.

I hope the wire from the cigarette connector is long enough to go from inside the centre console to the ash tray. My car is a very early LCI so don't understand why an iPod won't charge unless it is a programming issue.
