In Australia BMWs are pretty common (in the cities at least), so you don't get too many looks, but not many E60's are modded. I have a 530d M Sport with 19s and its about as far as they go.
There are far more modded 3ers, but they are pretty common. I would say that if some of the cars on this forum hit the streets down here, they would get a lot of attention.

Ha, the other Day I was in the parking lot at a walmart, and had 2 different people stop by my car and take pics. It was dirty too, I kinda felt bad. Then I had a cop one time pull me over, young cop, said man you beemer is fkin sick, laughed, paused, and then asked me if I knew what he stopped me for? SMH TINTS anyway, I knew it was bound to happen tho. Stuff like that makes me feel like, man I really dont need a Lambo. HEH

All the time with my old E60 and all the time with my new F10. Even had a guy follow me into a store parking lot just so he could get a better look at the F10 and ask me about it! Also had a couple valet parking dudes who couldn't stop telling me how nice the car is.
I agree that in some places (like Miami and SoCal), a nice BMW is just another car but in Pittsburgh, people take note of nice cars...
