I had my new 545 in for service (increased emissions, SOS failure, headlights too low) and they gave me a 325i for a loaner. While I was driving this car, I noticed how the radio displayed the artist and song name for every song. I really liked this feature. Is the radio in the new 5 supposed to support this?

I do know that under "All Stations" it picks up call letters, but that's all I've seen from RDS.

Thanks,
-Rob

I can only get artist and title from a cd-text encoded CD in the front CD drive, not from changer and certainly not on any radio station, just callsign.

Herb, can you really display radiotext (scrolling artist and title info)?

can we see a picture?

cheers

I don't think UK RDS even supports this feature. You would need a DAB radio to access this kind of functionality

Analog rds in the uk does support radiotext, my wife has a minisystem in the kitchen and it displays messages upto 256 characters such as artist/composer/station identification etc, it scrolls the info and is called radiotext.

My dab reciever has a similar function but obviously this is wholly digital and can give more info etc.

I must say that if a dab upgrade was available for my e60, I'd jump at it as there are so many more stations I'd listen to....pklanet rock, jazz fm etc etc which are just not available on analog up here.

I was considering buying a blaupunkt woodstock unit for my mini but never got round to it and now its sold!

I tried this over the weekend and no joy. I don't get artist or song info.

Too bad, as I really liked this feature in that 325 loaner.

Maybe this will be included in the fabled version 12?
