Default Does oil level in idrive ever read anything but full?

Just checking how accurate the oil level indicator is in the idrive system. I have a 2010 535xi touring. I have a slight leak at the oil filter housing along with a oil catch can to lessen the amount of oil going into my intake so I know some oil is coming out, but my level still says everything is perfect.

Thanks,

Eric

You can lose half a quart before it starts to move. It'll prompt you to add a quart of oil when it hits the bottom of the dipstick, which I believe is 1.5 quarts low.

Good to know what the logic is. Thanks!

Just recently I have been driving 1200 miles after the warning. The dipstick was not wet any more at all.

There is just one sensor to indicate a low level.

I am assuming you have an m5x engine if you have a dipstick. Unfortunately they removed the dipstick on the n5x engines so I am wholly dependent on idrive to tell me how my oil level looks. It sucks. I much prefer the low tech dipstick...

I find the electronic dipstick to be very precise on my N62TU. There are about 6 bars on the oil level indicator on the idrive. I know when its loosing oil and about to let out a warning.

550i usually have dipsticks + the idrive oil level. I've heard some people have 550i with dummy covers for the dipstick. If your car is like that you can just buy the dipstick and your good to go.
