engine fault codes, or "OBD" codes are generic, which is why a scan tool like that will clear check engine lights on any OBDII car.

airbag systems are proprietary. if you only want to read OBD codes, that scanner will work fine. If you want to diagnose SRS faults, or other BMW specific faults, you need a communcations cable and the proper BMW software. so no, a generic OBD scan tool is not going to help you if you're trying to solve an SRS problem.

That one that connects to an iphone is interesting though - it might be a good way to get a coolant temperature gauge.
