Question Does this OBD scanner work for 08 535i?

I really don't know anything about those scanners...Will this one work for my 08 535i?

Thanks....

INNOVA 3140 Diagnostic Code Scanner for OBDI and OBDII Vehicles : Amazon.com : Automotive

I just need a cheap one, can help me solve the passenger side restraint system malfunction message.

Amazon.com: SainSpeed D900 OBD2 live Data Canbus Code Reader Scanner Version 2012: Electronics Amazon.com: SainSpeed D900 OBD2 live Data Canbus Code Reader Scanner Version 2012: Electronics

This will do the trick. And for only $40.
Works great, I bought one a few months ago because I buy and sell cars quite frequently.
It works on my 2008 535i sport. Displays the code number and also gives a written explanation.

For example, on my last scan after a "tighten gas cap" message, even though it was already tightened on displayed the following:
"P0442 - Evaporative Emission system leak detected (small leak)"

I diagnosed it as a faulty gas cap based on the tighten gas cap message my car gave me prior to scanning with the d900. After installing a new gas cap, I erased the code with the scanner, and its never come back since.
In other words, it worked well!

A d900 and some patience searching the web is all you need.

Any other recommendation? If there is none, I will just buy this one then...

that generic OBD reader is probably not going to help you with SRS codes. You need to buy a proper BMW specific cable and software.

You mean the SainSpeed D900 OBD2 also has a chance that it won't work?

I think everyone on this board has the "Passenger Restraint System Malfunction" problem either currently or has had in the past and just coded it out. Mine comes on everytime and it's driving me nuts!!!!

Autozone may have one you can borrow to determine if the universal scanners will detect the code. I assumed you just wanted to hide the code which the D900 will do.

My d900 has worked with everything I've used it for on my 535i. Call the company and they may have a more detailed answer on what the d900 can and can't do for your 535i.

As I said, I've never had any issues with mine but I use it for other cars more than my own 535i

Autozone can lend scanner to customers, except in California.....!!!

From all I have seen, it seems that we can't hide that restraint system malfunction message, unless we do replace the correct part. My s*ealer told me it is the BST cable though....

Down load INPA from the coding form or have someone give you a copy. Get the coding cable and you are in for about 30 bucks!
