You want to know what's worse than debadge or not debadge? I happened to follow a 2001 740i with the badge //M7 on the highway this morning. Now, that's hillarious.

I hate badges and they come off my car as soon as I get them. If I get an M5 the car won't make it out of the dealership with the badges on. Clean appearance is one reason, but IMO badges are stupid and for people who are insecure and require everyone in the world to know what the have. I absolutely could not care less who knows what I have. I know what I have, that's all that counts.

Not that I have any feelings on the matter.

People do stupid things for a lot of nonsense reasons. The reality is you have a 530 which is a very nice car. If you feel "inferior" then go get an M5. If not, and you shouldn't, then leave the car alone.

You can also put a bumper sticker with "My other car is an M5"

I have had some BMW's and all the new ones have been debadged.

The NK was not, as a Classic, nor the '81 E12 520 or the '88 E30 320iA and
the '01 E39 525iA as they where bought as used cars (leaves shadows if removed).
The superbike K1 was not debaged because...

But all my new BMW's since '95 have been and will be debadged.

A real BMW fan can pretty easily see the engine size anyway
and those who can't - do not care or do not need to know.

This matter is actually one of many BMW "inside" specialitys that many
brands follows...

My uncle debadged his M5 and I thought it was the coolest thing. Kind of like, "I drive this car for me, not so that you know I have an M5." If he needed to prove to anyone what he had, he just blew their doors off. I think there is something really cool about debadging.
I saw one better than that a few months ago in the UK. It was a new '56 plate M5 with a 518i badge on the back trundling down the outside lane of the motorway just waiting for some oik who didn't know his arse from his elbow to flash him to get out of the way .....

Now that is someone with a sense of humour.

Blings a lot.

But for "not drug dealers/pimps" the classic look is better.
