Don't shoot me, but does anyone else feel that the 545i is a bit less powerful than they expected? Having driven a 540 a few times, stepping on the gas, I always got pinned to my seat, and it had the WOW, Holy SH*T feel.

i don't have that same feel on the 545i? maybe there is a programming issue or something?

I will say it is fast, indeed, but somewhere I am losing the Holy Cr*p feel.

anyone?

I would have to say that I never thought the 545 felt "Powerful" to me. The power and torque of the 545 was never impressive to me.

All I can say is this 545 feels stronger and faster than either of my two 540's over the years.

Even funnier -- it seems to be getting faster lately (7500 miles).

I just got back in the office after a five day, 800 mile drive through California. 70% of the miles were two lane mountain roads, the rest freeway. The power was always outstanding. What the brute power didn't cover, the torque did. My car has 11,000 miles & is a year old. No problems, excellent power was available in any gear at any time.

Maybe if one had the 6spd manual or SMG over the steptronic it would feel livelier!? :winkcool:

Personally i am leaning towards the SMG! It's nice to have a hand free while driving

I am not saying it isn't fast, or not powerful. I am simply expressing my opinion that it feels "less" powerful than I expected and as compared to the 540's I've driven. that's all. perhaps there was a software glitch, or something with the DME... that is why I am asking.

this may be, maybe a manual is more aggressive than the auto..

I noticed the same thing initially but after about 2-3k mi the car felt more

natural. I owned 2 540i's before. IMO, I think the combination of the

following 545 characteristics produce a sensation of less power, when it

obviously has more.

more powerful motor making fwd motion seem more effortless

lighter car-front aluminum sub frame

more sound insulation

enough electronics and steering control to produce a feeling of

having an "inertial damper" on board

I now have 12k mi and the car does give a great kick when floored

at a stoplight. [I get tired of kids w/ souped up Hondas tryin to race!]

It may be the engine software is limiting the "off the line" performance some how to keep the engine/trans/rear end in a safe operating mode.

Safe by way of operating parameters.
