For the most part yes to your question - no, very few do/most people do not.

I asked about this a while ago:

https://5series.net/forums/topic/113...sh-cam-anyone/

I also asked on Reddit. I think someone PM'd me like 3 months ago with some camera from China they got. I didn't look too closely .. maybe I should revisit.

Hey guys

Just to let you know I'm going to be getting one of either

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5-LCD-Car-...item2a22556965

Or

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-HD-Small...item19d2fae96f

Both are relatively cheap <$100 but the key to me is the size. They're both really small and I plan on putting the main (the one with two cameras) unit into my glove so i can access it much easier and not play with the mounted camera.

Also I think I'm going to place it by the upper passenger side out of my view because after looking at the interior there isn't to many places to place the camera without making feel like (a) an eyesore or (b) I'm on a reality show

I'll make sure to make a youtube clip of the install (write up I think is tougher)

So over the weekend went shopping with my wife......this is what I got......
I'm really pissed at this person as well as my self. If I had this in dash camera with motion sensor or whatever it would have saved me time and $$$$$$

The bump is much obvious than the picture and it sucks....I have to deductible in order to replace the bumper. Thinking about buying a used mtech replica bumper or something through here.

So I will be buying the BlackVue DR400G-HD over the weekend.

Hey Everyone

Just want to update you all with what I bought.

Instead of purchasing some random Chinese dash camera from ebay I purchased the BlackVue DR400G-HD II It looked like the best bang for your buck.

Although I ended up buying this from ebay (I am still waiting for it to ship). I found out they do not distribute these in the US. I felt like it was the best bang for my buck. All the youtube and other side reviews look great so I pulled the trigger on it.

http://www.blackvuehd.co.uk/BlackVue_DR400G_HD_v2.php

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=DR400G-HD

I paid about $200

The things I based my purchase on: (that were important to me)
  • Image recording quality, It has to be HD and read license plates and not look like a colored etch-a-sketch
  • Style, how the body is designed so how I can best hide it without looking like a show of cash cab
  • Mount type (supplementing the style), has to be minimal if any.
  • Screen, why most of them have screens is beyond me, few come with none.
  • and most importantly the software, whether it is even usable.
as a plus some even have GPS to show/record speed and map placement. So in summary all the cheaper Chinese ones had something iffy about one of the above mentioned categories. Thus I figured to wait a little (to save) and spend more on a better camera. Because I'm not well off enough to buy this twice.

another small plus is it came with an micro SD card (16gb) so I don't have to worry about buying one.

Also if anyone else decides to get one like this make sure it is version 2

I'll be certain to update everyone on how the install turns out when I receive it. I'm excited

The Blackvue Season 2 was supposed to fix overheating issues that the first Blackvue faced. I've heard the new Season 2 cameras still have the same problem. I personally purchased the Itronics myself off eBay waiting for it to arrive in a few days.

I would suggest the following in no particular order:

Itronics ITB-100HD GPS/1080p/24fps
Finevu CR-300HD No GPS (optional)/1080p/30fps
Finevu CR-500HD No GPS (optional)/1080p/30fps (Sony Exmor R CMOS)

Here's a YouTube video comparing Itronics, Blackvue & Finevu.
(Credit goes to Andrew from CarCamCentral for providing link.)

Here's someone who installed it into a BMW 7 Series using the mirror loom for direct power.

Oh one last thing for those who want to record while in Parking Mode and don't want to use those Power Magic devices here's a backup battery. Not sure how well it will perform overtime under high heat conditions inside car.

Sorry I keep on adding to my reply but hopefully this will be the last thing. It appears first model Blackvue is better than second model at night performance according to this test and what others have said.
