I like to auto-lock also. Funny, most people ask me the first time "how do you open this". Then they get used to it.

I have mine set to auto-lock, and yes, it is annoying having to explain the double-pull. I try to unlock for my passengers before they do, but many times I forget. I wonder why they went to the double pull. My former E36 only took one pull to unlock and I could have it programmed to either unlock all doors with one pull of the driver's door or unlock only the driver's door.

From a safety perspective, especially for the little lady, I would prefer if the door would lock as soon as "D" is engaged. I don't car if it unlocks upon going to "P" or the present way.

I use auto-lock as well. When I park I just hit the unlock button in the dash. I don't even double pull myself.

My wife's Honda Pilot does not have auto-lock (so stupid!) so we got in the habit of locking it our selves once we get moving. When we park, if you don't unlock the doors first, you are not getting out, no matter how many pulls you do. I think the double pull on the BMW is a smart feature

Double pull is a great feature, helps prevent accidental opening of the door.

Also note after the first pull you dont really have to release the door handle back to its original position before pulling a second time... its more of a 1.5X pull. I've mastered it LOL
