Had my 530 just over 3 weeks now and need to buy a new tyre for the rear prior to the winter snow starting. Ideally i do not want to spend a fortune replacing the current tyre with a new run flat, as i am planning on buying new alloys pretty soon.
Would the Idrive find a normal tyre as a fault of will they would you just have to reset the system?

Runflats are summer tires anyway...
and NO, you definitely don't "NEED" to get RFTs. It has been discussed to death on this forum, but I'll just go ahead and tell you the consensus: for the money you're gonna spend on RFTs, get a "regular" set of all-season high-performance tires, a spare and/or mobility kit and then buy a mod or two.
Your car will ride better with the regular tires too
PS I'm getting the new Continentals - DWS they're called. But for the money that RFTs cost, you can go way upmarket to Michelins and still save.

iDrive won't care if you use non-runflats but you should consider some other things before making your decision...
Does the car have a spare tire available? If not, then you'll probably want to get one or just stick with the runflats.
If you only need to replace one tire, I don't think it's a good idea to mix tires of different models.

plenty used RFTs for sale in the classifieds, your local wheel shops may have some - depending where you live, finally eBay and craigslist are good too - been there, done that, so if you have any more questions, "I'll be here all week"

If your other three tires are RFTs, you'd better get RFT for the 4th wheel. You always want consistent handling/behavior from all 4 wheels.

you cannot replace just one tire on the rear. even though the tire sizes might be the same, if one is slightly taller then the other you will damage your rear diff. It could potentially cause your DSC to react poorly. If you change just one on your front, your car will pull in one direction.
Rule of thumb, if you are not replacing all 4, replace 2. both fronts or both backs. Dont get RFTs. Only thing I noticed is that my car doesnt feel as stable above 130. I can tell the sidewalls are softer.

The other rear tyre was replaced 3 days after i got the car as i had blow out so it is pretty new and lucky if drove 100miles since replaced.
Looks like i will just hold out and buy new wheels, Dont drive the car much as i work abroad so it just sits in drive for 3weeks at a time.
cheers for the info
