Global BMW (Atlanta area) is running an oil change special of $79.95 (up to 8 quarts)
Global Imports BMW Service & Parts at Independent Prices | Global Imports BMW Service Center
So I did some quick math:
Mobil 1 0W-40 $6.97 quart (Walmart) + 7.25% tax = $7.48 quart.
$7.48 x 8 = $59.81 total
Hengst/Mahle Filter: $8.90 (local indy shop price)
Total: $68.70 (Lowest combined price I could find in the ATL market)
Global BMW $79.95 x 1.075 tax = $85.95
$85.95 - $68.70 = $17.25 Difference.
(I'm not including any gas but I would definitely use at least 1 gallon at $4.00 to get the oil/filter)
Hmmm. I think I'm done with DIY oil changes going forward as this special price is pretty common around the Atlanta market.

Well, price wise it may not be worth. What matters for me is quality because all the time I did my oil change in BMW dealership I had problem with oil leaks. They did not tighten the drain plug enough, forgot to put filter gasket. They do it fast. I take my time and let the old oil to drain at least 3 hours. I run a quarter fresh oil and dump it before I put the rest. I use Lubro moly oil now. I clean my air sensor and filter ever oil change.

^ +1 on the above 2 posts.
Oil change gives me an opportunity to look under the vehicle and look for any leaks/problems.
I find Mobil1 0W-40 on sale for $5 a qt from time to time at various stores. Whenever it's on sale, I stock them up (I have 2 cars that need 0W-40). My cost for oil and filter comes to around $50. Do the math for 2 vehicles and the peace of mind of knowing that I've done the work carefully without damaging anything and getting an opportunity to check under the vehicle.

Atlanta market is pretty limited on BMW LL-01 oils at a decent price. All the auto parts stores in ATL always state that their promotional coupons/specials do not apply to Mobil 1.
The very best I could do is $68, and that's driving a few miles to get that that Hengst at $8.90 out the door.

Autozone will do the $5 Mobil 1 once in a while but it get it on the Walmart website and ship it site to store. Its 6.97 a quart every time I get it. I get the Mann filter from amazon.

Back in November, Pep Boys had Black Friday sale of $5 a qt on Mobil1 0W-40. I bought 24 qts. Prior to that, during summer, NAPA had a sale of $5.70 a qt. I bought 2 cases as well. Whenever I see good price on oil, I buy couple of cases. As the other member stated above, Autozone also has sale once in a while on Mobil1.
If you don't want to wait for sale, Walmart price is not bad at all, with deliver to store option.

Also you have to factor in temporarily storing, hauling, and proper disposal of the used oil. $17 to me isn't bad. Actually, over the weekend I just had an oil change. I supplied my own oil and filter and just paid the mechanic $17.
